The country Abbudin in Tyrant
Like me, you may have been puzzled by the country Abbudin mentioned in the TV series Tyrant, wondering during the first episode: what is this country I cannot remember?!? oO
I had to check online to realize that it is a fictional Middle Eastern state. To protect themselves legally, and perhaps also to avoid possible diplomatic incidents, the production team chose not to name any real country directly. Some characters also have a letter changed from reality, for example Gaddafi is called Gadhafi, and so on.
The flag used is a clever blend of various Arab flags, somewhere between Kuwait, Palestine and Jordan.
That said, this choice to avoid darkening the image of a real nation was not enough to protect the series from many negative reactions, as the show focuses heavily on exaggerated clichés.
Developed by Gideon Raff, Tyrant is far from his greatest success. Homeland , adapted from Hatufim and developed by the same person, is of much better quality in my opinion.
