In this video, Scilabus tested and checked for us the different myths surrounding waxing and shaving.
In short, she tested it for 4 months, then compared the result under a microscope.
In summary:
- Hairs are not thicker when you shave them
- Hairs are not finer when you remove them by waxing or epilation
- So there is no change in thickness after shaving or hair removal
- Shaving makes the hair feel pricklier because the tip of the hair forms a triangle.
- Hair feels softer after epilation because the end is not cut cleanly.
- Shaving or epilation does not change the number of hairs in the area; the number of follicles does not change depending on shaving or epilation.
- So the amount of hair does not change, whatever the method.
Simply put:
Epilation simply makes the hair take longer to grow back than shaving, because it has to start again from the root, that's all. Shaving does not speed up growth either.
