A truck driver messes up at a level crossing

Publié le 04 Mai 2026

Information

Video published by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA

In this Polish video, a truck driver carrying an excavator on his trailer misjudges his braking before a level crossing. He tries to recover and force his way through as quickly as possible before the train arrives.
Bad luck: he could not avoid the train, and his trailer was clipped.

I still get the impression that he could have braked if he had insisted; he was very close to stopping.

We can also notice that the sun is in his eyes, that the level-crossing barrier is not at his height, and that these two facts together could explain why he did not see that it was lowered.

Here is a French description of the video description:

2019 was the safest year in terms of travel-related incidents in 4 years.
There were about twenty fewer accidents than in 2018, which means an 11% decrease in dangerous events.
This is a drop in incidents despite the increase in the number of cars and trains in circulation. However, the main cause of accidents at level crossings remains drivers' lack of caution and violations of traffic rules.
Such behavior is a threat not only to your own life, but also to the passengers on the train.

Unfortunately, last year, 34 incidents were caused by negligence from professional drivers — bus, coach and truck drivers.
